Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has officially received Accreditation A from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) on Saturday, July 22, 2017. Located at the Main Building of Siti Walidah UMS on the 7th floor, the handover of SK from the General Directorate of Higher Education to the Rector of UMS went on solemnly and smoothly.
The event, which took place in conjunction with a series of Coordination Meetings for the Leaders of Private Universities and the Coordinator of Private Higher Education Coordination Kopertis VI Rayon II, was attended by Prof. Aris Junaidi, Ph.D. as the Director of Quality Assurance of Ristekdikti, Dr. Sofyan Anif, M.Si. as the Rector of UMS, Drs. H. A. Dahlan Rais, M.Hum. as the Representative of the Muhammadiyah Central Executive, Prof. Dr. Dwi Yuwono Puji Sugiharto, M.Pd., as the Coordinator of Kopertis VI, and several other higher education officials. On this occasion the Rector of UMS, Dr. Sofyan Anif, M.Si. said that UMS as a private university has a strong commitment to become a university that was able to compete in quality with the state universities in Indonesia.
“This year UMS has succeeded in being ranked 8th best university in Indonesia, and in the Academic Year of 2017/2018 6,500 new student candidates have been registered. This fact shows the existence of UMS, as well as a strong commitment from us in providing the quality education services,” said Dr. Sofyan Anif, M.Si. in his speech.
Furthermore, Dr. Sofyan Anif, M.Si. added that there was a need for awareness and design of new curricula for private universities, especially Kopertis VI Rayon II, not only oriented on the quality at the national level but also towards standardization at the international level.
In line with UMS Rector, Prof. Aris Junaidi, Ph.D. also said that a strong commitment to make private universities compete and even improve their quality better than public universities will have a positive impact on the development of education in Indonesia.
As a closing remarks, Prof. Aris Junaidi, Ph.D. congratulated UMS who has received Accreditation A. “At this time there are 55 universities in Indonesia that have been accredited A, but today UMS has recorded new data with a total of 56 universities accredited A. Congratulations to UMS, “he said at the end of his speech at the coordination meeting.
After receiving accreditation A, in the future UMS will improve the quality of both academic and service quality so that this proud achievement will always be maintained in the future. (Ahmad)
